Reverse-phase high-performance liquid chromatography is the standard method for purity assessment, separating the peptide from truncated or oxidized variants. Mass spectrometry confirms molecular mass and detects modifications, while ultraviolet absorbance near 280 nanometers supports concentration measurement through tryptophan and tyrosine residues. Circular dichroism can indicate secondary structure, though the peptide is largely helical in solution, and ion-exchange chromatography resolves charge variants. Purity values above 95 percent are typical for research-grade material. Stability studies track degradation over time under defined conditions.
Lyophilized semaglutide is typically stored at temperatures between minus 20 and minus 80 degrees Celsius for long-term preservation. Short-term storage at 2 to 8 degrees Celsius is common for working aliquots. Repeated freeze-thaw cycles can degrade the peptide and are usually avoided. The molecule is hygroscopic in its solid form, so containers should remain sealed with desiccant. Solutions are less stable than powders and are generally prepared fresh. Light exposure is limited because aromatic residues can undergo photo-oxidation.
GLP-1 receptors are expressed on pancreatic beta cells, in the gut, and in several brain regions. Receptor activation raises cyclic AMP, enhances glucose-dependent insulin secretion, and suppresses glucagon release when blood glucose is high. Effects on gastric emptying and on hypothalamic appetite circuits reduce energy intake. Because insulin release remains glucose-dependent, the risk of hypoglycemia is low when the drug is used alone. The precise contribution of each pathway to body weight change in humans remains an area of active investigation.
Clinical studies of semaglutide generally measure glycated hemoglobin, fasting plasma glucose, body weight, and composite cardiovascular endpoints. The SUSTAIN program enrolled adults with type 2 diabetes, while the STEP program focused on obesity without diabetes. Administration follows a stepwise escalation schedule designed to limit gastrointestinal effects during the first weeks. Reported outcomes include mean percentage weight change, the proportion of participants reaching defined weight-loss thresholds, and rates of nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. Long-term data on durability after treatment stops are still limited and remain a topic of ongoing research.

Activation of the GLP-1 receptor couples to Gs signalling and raises intracellular cyclic AMP in pancreatic beta cells. The resulting insulin release depends on prevailing glucose concentrations, so the effect is greater when glucose is elevated. Receptor engagement also suppresses glucagon secretion and slows gastric emptying, which flattens post-meal glucose excursions. In the central nervous system, signalling in hypothalamic and brainstem regions is associated with reduced appetite and lower energy intake. Studies continue to examine effects on cardiac, renal and hepatic endpoints; whether those benefits are independent of weight change remains an open question.
Clinical development of this compound followed earlier short-acting GLP-1 analogues that required frequent injection. Once-weekly subcutaneous formulations entered use after 2017, and an oral formulation using a permeation enhancer later became available. The oral version pairs the peptide with sodium N-(8-[2-hydroxybenzoyl] amino) caprylate, a carrier that improves uptake across the gastric epithelium. Interest has expanded from glycaemic control into weight management and metabolic liver disease. Regulatory status and approved indications differ between countries, and the product remains subject to ongoing safety monitoring.
Solid peptide material is generally kept at reduced temperature to limit degradation. Short-term storage at 2 to 8 degrees Celsius is common, while longer archival storage at minus 20 degrees Celsius or below is typical for lyophilised powder. Vials should remain sealed and protected from light, because ultraviolet exposure can oxidise susceptible residues. Repeated freeze-thaw cycles are avoided, as they promote aggregation and loss of soluble material. Solutions are less stable than solids and are usually prepared close to the time of use.
Reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography is widely used to assess purity and to separate the parent peptide from related substances. Mass spectrometry confirms identity and can resolve modifications that differ by a few daltons. Size-exclusion chromatography detects dimers and higher aggregates, which are relevant to both stability and immunogenicity questions. Peptide mapping with enzymatic digestion locates specific modifications along the sequence. Circular dichroism provides a secondary-structure profile, although it gives limited information about local conformational changes.
Quality control for peptide material focuses on identity, purity, content and the profile of impurities. Common degradants include deamidated and oxidised forms, plus aggregates formed during storage or handling. Forced degradation studies under heat, light, acid and peroxide help define which conditions accelerate change and which analytical methods detect it. Limits for individual impurities are set by pharmacopoeial monographs or manufacturer specifications. How much a given impurity affects biological activity is often uncertain, and conclusions may depend on the assay used.
Neptunium also forms a large number of oxide compounds with a wide variety of elements, although the neptunate oxides formed with alkali metals and alkaline earth metals have been by far the most studied. Ternary neptunium oxides are generally formed by reacting NpO2 with the oxide of another element or by precipitating from an alkaline solution. Li5NpO6 has been prepared by reacting Li2O and NpO2 at 400 °C for 16 hours or by reacting Li2O2 with NpO3·H2O at 400 °C for 16 hours in a quartz tube and flowing oxygen. Alkali neptunate compounds K3NpO5, Cs3NpO5, and Rb3NpO5 are all produced by a similar reaction:
== Examples == Numerous endogenous compounds – including hormones, catecholamines such as dopamine and noradrenaline, and many trace amines (e.g. adrenaline, phenethylamine itself, tyramine, thyronamine, and iodothyronamine) – are substituted phenethylamines. Several notable recreational drugs, such as MDPV (Monkey Dust), MDMA (ecstasy), mescaline, methamphetamine, and cathinone, are also members of the class. Many well-known prescription drugs are from the phenylethylamine class such as Adderall which uses Amphetamine, Desoxyn which uses methamphetamine, and Sudafed which uses pseudoephedrine.
In more recent years, the party has attempted to win votes from Black South Africans and as a result, Black support for the DA has risen over the past several years, going from 1% to 6%. The DA is a liberal party that favours free-market policies. The DA was allotted 89 seats in parliament after the 2014 general election, but the party's seat total decreased to 84 seats following the 2019 general election. The DA has been part of the government of South Africa since the 2024 general election, having joined the Government of National Unity (GNU), and President Cyril Ramaphosa's Third Cabinet. The DA stated that one of its main aims for joining the GNU was keeping rival parties EFF and MK out of the government; a goal which was achieved as per the eventual composition of the GNU. As of May 2025, the party holds 6 ministry seats, and 6 deputy ministry seats in parliament. Economic Freedom Fighters The EFF emerged eight months before the 2014 general election and won 25 seats in parliament. After the 2019 general elections, the EFF increased their seats in parliament to 44, the only party of the top three parties that achieved an increase of members in parliament. The EFF is a far-left revolutionary socialist political party, advocating for land expropriation and for an end to corruption within parliament. Inkatha Freedom Party The IFP, which was formed in 1990 was the successor to the former government in the now-defunct Kwazulu Bantustan, traditionally draws its support from the Zulu people. It has however made inroads into the minority electorate of Whites and Indians.
==== Contamination of water supply ==== In 2005, the water supply to the city of Harbin in China with a population of almost nine million people, was cut off because of a major benzene exposure. Benzene leaked into the Songhua River, which supplies drinking water to the city, after an explosion at a China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) factory in the city of Jilin on 13 November 2005. When plastic water pipes are subject to high heat, the water may be contaminated with benzene.

=== Isotopologues === Fludalanine (3-Fluoro-D-alanine-2-d): 3-fluoroalanine that has been deuterated at C2. This molecule was a promising antibiotic candidate that inhibited alanine racemases, which are integral to bacterial cell wall synthesis. At high concentrations, bacteria use fludalanine itself for cell wall synthesis. The compound ultimately failed clinical trials due to toxic metabolites.
== Medical uses == Flupentixol's main use is as a long-acting injection given once in every two or three weeks to individuals with schizophrenia who have poor compliance with medication and have frequent relapses of illness, though it is also commonly given as a tablet. There is little formal evidence to support its use for this indication but it has been in use for over fifty years. Flupentixol is also used in low doses as an antidepressant. There is tentative evidence that it reduces the rate of deliberate self-harm, among those who self-harm repeatedly.
=== LS-SCLC === Chest X-rays are typically the first step to evaluate someone for any type of lung cancer. If images show suspicious spots on the patient's lung, a healthcare provider may order chest CT, PET, needle biopsy or bronchoscopy for further check. It is possible to use bronchoscopic biopsy to diagnose Lung small-cell carcinoma. However, small-cell carcinoma tissue obtained through bronchoscopy is prone to tissue compression and unclear morphology. However, pathologists can stain lesions with immunohistochemistry Ki-67, CD56, TTF-1, CgA, Syn, P63, CK5/6, LCA, and 34βE12 to help, in order to make a differential diagnosis.

== Property evaluation == One should evaluate the properties (mechanical, electronic, optical, magnetic, etc.) of the material that has been chosen and indicate what the major differences would be if the same material were not at nanoscale. Nanotubes formed from dipeptides are stable under extreme conditions. Dry nanotubes do not degrade until 200 °C; nanotubes display exceptional chemical stability at a range of pH and in the presence of organic solvents. This is a marked difference from natural biological systems, which are often unstable and sensitive to temperature and chemical conditions. Indentation-atomic-force-microscopy experiments showed that dry nanotubes on mica have an average stiffness of 160 N/m and a high Young's modulus of 19–27 GPa. Although they are less stiff than carbon and non-carbon nanotubes, with these values these nanotubes are amongst some of the stiffest known biological materials. The mechanisms which facilitates the mechanical stiffness has been suggested to be the intermolecular hydrogen bonds and rigid aromatic side chains on the peptides. Apart from those made by cyclic peptides, the nanotubes' inner and outer surface properties have not yet been successfully independently modified. Hence, it presents a limitation that the inner and outer tube surfaces are identical. Molecular assembly mostly occurs through weak non-covalent bonds, which include: hydrogen bonds, ionic bonds, van der Waals interactions, and hydrophobic interactions.
== Chemistry == Oxazepam exists as a racemic mixture. Early attempts to isolate enantiomers were unsuccessful; the corresponding acetate has been isolated as a single enantiomer. Given the different rates of epimerization that occur at different pH levels, it was determined that there would be no therapeutic benefit to the administration of a single enantiomer over the racemic mixture.
Relatedly, DFNZ shows diminished efficacy in activating the MOR–galanin receptor 1 (MOR–GAL1) heteromer and has limited effects on dopaminergic signaling in the nucleus accumbens. Based on preclinical findings, the drug has low expected misuse liability in humans. It remains unclear the extent to which the analgesia of DFNZ is mediated by central versus peripheral MORs. However, it is known that the peripherally restricted MOR agonist loperamide shows only weak analgesic effects, in contrast to the strong analgesia of DFNZ. DFNZ is described as having an unusually strong and favorable safety profile for an opioid analgesic, let alone for a high-efficacy nitazene opioid. DFNZ was first described in the scientific literature by 2026. It was developed by researchers at the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) and other institutions. There is interest in DFNZ for potential medical use as an analgesic in the treatment of pain and in opioid maintenance therapy. The drug may have advantages over conventional opioids such as improved safety. Sustained-release formulations may be required for some indications, like opioid substitution. DFNZ is a potential novel designer drug, but has not yet been encountered as one as of May 2026.

Long-term storage is usually at minus 20 to minus 80 degrees Celsius in a sealed, desiccated container. Working aliquots can be held briefly at 2 to 8 degrees Celsius.
Repeated temperature cycling can promote aggregation and peptide degradation. Dividing material into single-use aliquots limits this risk.
Mass spectrometry is commonly used to confirm molecular mass and detect structural modifications. It is often paired with chromatographic purity assessment.
It is given either as a once-weekly subcutaneous injection or as an oral tablet taken once daily. The two forms use different absorption strategies, so they are not interchangeable on a milligram-for-milligram basis.
